South Carolina will likely pass the 6,000-death mark this week, as COVID-19 deaths and cases continue adding up.

The state Department of Health and Environmental Control reported 3,450 cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, with 60 new deaths from the coronavirus-caused disease.

The total number of of deaths due to COVID-19 in South Carolina reached 5,915 on Sunday, from 376,987.

With 13,560 tests reported Sunday, 25.4% were positive.

This weekend also brought a change of tone from Gov. Henry McMaster. After initially threatening state health care providers with a mandate to expedite vaccine distribution, McMaster said, “We’re past that now,” during a press conference in Hilton Head Saturday. “Those that are behind are catching up.”
