Tropical Storm Elsa has entered the Gulf of Mexico after landfall in Cuba yesterday and is expected to affect Florida through Wednesday. The storm is expected to weaken into a depression as it sweeps up from Florida into the Carolinas and southeast Virginia late Wednesday and into Thursday. Under Daniel’s Law, mothers in South Carolina can safely abandon unharmed newborns at a hospital, police, fire or EMS station, or a place of worship as long as staff is present. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will deliver the keynote address at the South Carolina Republican Party’s signature fundraiser, the Silver Elephant Dinner, on July 30. The event is a favorite stop among Republicans eyeing presidential runs.
