Update: Mount Pleasant police said the bridge reopened just after 2 p.m. Saturday, but that the area around Mount Pleasant Waterfront Park Remains closed as officials investigate the suspicious package.

Charleston and Mount Pleasant police are urging drivers to find alternate routes between the two cities as officers investigate a “suspicious package” near the East Cooper side of the bridge.

Police reportedly received a call about the package this morning at 11:21 a.m. The Mount Pleasant and City of Charleston fire and police departments responded to the call and are currently investigating the situation.

All northbound and southbound lanes are currently closed to traffic and the pedestrian lane is being cleared.
