Charlamagne tha God, the influential and controversial New York radio host from Moncks Corner, is getting his own Comedy Central late-night show. And it will be produced by another Charleston-native national media figure: Stephen Colbert.

Tha God’s Honest Truth with Lenard ‘Charlamagne’ McKelvey will debut at 10 p.m. Sept. 17 on Comedy Central.

Look for the show to include the magnetic host’s “culturally fluent” takes on current issues, a press release explained Wednesday.

“Redemptively comedic, refreshingly unfiltered and unapologetically Black, nothing is off limits.”

Charlamagne has for years been been a frequent guest on Colbert’s Late Night on CBS, part of the network conglomerate that owns Comedy Central.

As a co-host of The Breakfast Club morning show, Charlamagne is a bit of a skeptical antagonist in interviews. Able to draw big-name musicians and public figures alike, The Breakfast Club became a required appearance for Democrats running for national office.

Colbert is billed as a co-creator and executive producer on the new series, along with others.

“I look forward to all the ways in which the fearless, peerless Charlamagne is going to change the game,” Colbert said in a press release.

“My South Carolina brethren Stephen Colbert is the ultimate cosign in the late night space and he wouldn’t cosign no bullshit!” Charlamagne said in the release.
