After purchasing, renovating and reopening Coconut Joe’s Beach Bar & Grill on the Isle of Palms last year, Charleston Sports Pub owner Perry Freeman will look to do the same in the downstairs space previously occupied by Binky’s Seaside Oyster and Liquor Bar, which closed over the weekend.

Lawrence’s Seafood Company will officially take over the space Thursday, when Freeman plans to reopen the restaurant with a fresh concept and menu. The name is a nod to J.S. Lawrence, who purchased and renamed the island Isle of Palms in 1899.

“We’re paying homage to him and the roots of the founding of Isle of Palms,” said Freeman, who plans to add a timeline with important moments in IOP’s history to Lawrence’s Seafood Company’s back patio. “If it wasn’t for him, Isle of Palms wouldn’t even be a thing.”

Lawrence’s lobster logo hints at the expected offering — Freeman said its lobster roll will be a signature item, along with lobster mac and cheese. Patrons can also expect fresh fried seafood baskets, shrimp and grits, fried oyster po’ boys and other Southern seafood staples.

“We’re going to focus on getting good food out quick,” Freeman said. “I want to be an everyday place where locals can come to us in the off season. We want to be good for the community.”

Once open, Lawrence’s Seafood Company will serve lunch and dinner daily. For more information, visit lawrencesseafood.com.
