Cramers Cuisine chef/owner Owen Bernstein will pop-up Friday at The Daily Friday, 6-9 p.m., with help from Ethos Athletic Club’s Joey Welling and Jackson Metcalf. The chef, whose private dining and catering company specializes in “dishes inspired by travel,” will serve single and double smash burgers at the pop-up, Bernstein told the City Paper.

“For this one, we just wanted to be super simple. Joey’s been going around town trying to find the best burger, so we were like, ‘Why don’t we make one of our own?’ We’re excited for people to try it,” Bernstein said.

The Cape Cod, Massachusetts, native arrived in Charleston in 2019, working as a CrossFit instructor before launching Cramers Cuisine in May 2020, serving more than 800 guests more than 4,000 plates of food in his first six months. Bernstein offers coursed meals for groups celebrating special occasions, large party catering and in-home deliveries for folks looking to stock their fridge with plates like Mediterranean roasted chicken with braised kale and mushroom and pea risotto.

“I went home to Cape Cod [during the shutdown], and I needed to do something to keep myself busy so I started offering Zoom classes online for free,” Bernstein said. The classes were a hit, so when he returned to Charleston, Bernstein started his company, which caters to folks with allergies and dietary restrictions or preferences.

“I’ve had parties that are all gluten-free, vegetarian, dairy-free. It’s definitely been a game-changer because people reach out with all sorts of things all the time,” he said.

Cramers Cuisine will host outdoor “supper clubs” this fall | Cramers Cuisine Instagram

Friday, the trio will sell three different burgers: a single, double and “The Fancy,” topped with homemade bacon jam, comeback sauce and pickles. Bernstein, who is building up his clientele with the hopes of eventually opening a restaurant, called the burger night “a one-off,” but keep an eye on his social media page — this fall, the chef will host monthly “Charleston Supper Clubs,” when he serves attendees a 3-5 course meal at an outdoor location disclosed just before the event.

Burgers will be served on a first come, first served basis Friday. Wine, beer and sides will also be available for purchase from The Daily. For more information, visit cramerscuisine.com.
