“The first-ever Pickle Bar…”

If you’ve ever driven by the Moultrie Playground pickleball courts near Colonial Lake and thought, “I should try that sometime,” you’re in luck — a pickleball-themed “restaurant, retail and recreation concept” is coming to Summerville in fall 2022.

Located at the corner of Great Lawn Drive and Brighton Park Boulevard in the Nexton community, The Pickle Bar will feature a “Southern-inspired” restaurant, bar, eight pickleball courts and a music stage, according to a press release.

“We are excited to bring the first-ever Pickle Bar location to Nexton and the greater Summerville region,” Pickle Bar’s co-founder Alisa Tolliver said in the release. “Our atmosphere combines the comfortable setting of a laid-back evening with friends and family along with the high-energy spirit of a pickleball game, so that there is something for everyone to enjoy.”

Pickleball combines elements of tennis, ping-pong and badminton and is played with a paddle and plastic ball on a 20-by-44-foot court. The Pickle Bar will host clinics and tournaments to engage Summerville in the sport, which was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island just outside of Seattle.

The 40,000-square-foot project is set to break ground in January 2022. For more information, visit thepicklebar.com.
