Omicron in 30 U.S. states, D.C.
Washington, D.C., health officials said Sunday they have confirmed four unrelated cases of the omicron variant; three of which were in people who had recently traveled within the United States. Omicron has now been detected in 30 states according to a Washington Post tally.
All four cases were in fully vaccinated individuals.
Omicron has been noted as a variant of concern by the World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Preliminary data suggests it may cause milder cases of covid-19 than the delta variant, but may be more resistant to antibodies received from previous infections.
A new Israeli study shows that booster shots from Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine provide good protection against severe illness from the omicron variant.
