Local vocalist Zandrina Dunning’s production company, the ZD Experience, has partnered with Charleston Library Society to present “An Evening with Mayor John Tecklenburg & Friends” March 27 as part of Dunning’s P.U.R.E. Concert Series.
After many years of performing, Tecklenburg will be in the spotlight on lead vocals and piano for the first time.
“This show is extremely special, of course, because it’s the mayor,” Dunning told City Paper. “The fact that he trusts me with my idea and is willing to be the frontman — this is his first time, so I’m honored to be producing that for him.”
The performance will be a variety show infusing jazz, rock and blues. Tecklenburg’s backing band for the event is a formidable group: guitarist Lee Barbour, bassist Lavontá Green Sr., saxophonist Mark Sterbank, drummer James JT Rollerson and pianist Stephen Washington on an electric organ provided by North Charleston’s Fox Music. Dunning will sing with fellow vocalist Gillian Kohn.
“We are putting this together for the mission: peace, unity and revival through entertainment,” Dunning said.
$25 tickets for the 5 p.m. show at Charleston Library Society at 164 King St. can be purchased through Charleston Library Society.
