Local studio jazz ensemble Chucktown recently released a new compilation of jazz covers delivered with the band’s signature spin, A Night To Remember.

“We decided to choose covers from some of the popular music that’s out and do it our way with the Chucktown twist to it,” keyboardist Larry Ford told City Paper.

On the third track on the new album, “Taking 5” by Dave Brubeck, the Chucktown guys took the song out of its original 5/4 tempo and put it into a funkier 4/4 tempo to make the song groovable, completing it with vocoder synth elements to bring an electronic nuance.

“The album is easy-going jazz standards that are midtempo, but we really add our own flavor to them,” said guitarist John Bercik.

In addition to Ford and Bercik, Chucktown consists of saxophonist Chris Williams, bassist Jeff Holt and guitarist Paul Gelpi.
