Local harpist Abigail Kent will perform two solo pieces in the chamber music performance at Founders Hall as part of “Tasting Notes: A Night to Remember,” a May 19 event curated by local flutist John Samuel Roper that intersects food, wine and live music.

The vision of Tasting Notes is to combine great classical music with food and wine pairings. This year, Chef Adrian Grant will present his French-leaning menu offering elegant takes on Lowcountry faves like potato salad to be enjoyed while listening to pieces from French and Austrian composers.

“You get to feel like you’re really getting a taste of an inner world of the classical music scene as opposed to going to the symphony orchestra,” Kent told City Paper.

Kent’s harp will be the focal point in pieces by two French composers, André Caplet’s “Deux Divertissements” and Gabriel Fauré’s “Une châtelaine en sa tour.” She and Roper will be joined by clarinetist Gretchen Roper, violaist Ben Weiss, cellist Damian Kremer and violinists Jenny Weiss and Lydia Chernicoff for the chamber music performance.

“We are able to collaborate really closely,” Kent said. “We can take our time to think about how we want to present our interpretation of the music. We trade ideas back-and-forth about the repertoire and what would work with what type of meal it is — like if it’s a rich chocolate dessert, then let’s find music that has the same sort of feeling to it.”

Tickets for the 7 p.m., May 19 event are available through Eventbrite.
