Wade, the 1973 landmark court case that protects pregnant women’s liberty to choose to have an abortion without excessive government restriction. Folly Beach looking to limit overdevelopment. The Folly Beach Planning Commission sent zoning suggestions to City Council for approval, including an overlay zone that would require new businesses looking to build on Center Street to meet specific regulations such as being built at ground level and flood proofed and limited to two story buildings.
Charleston City Council pauses accommodation tax fund for festival. The annual funding that Charleston Wine + Food Festival has received from an accommodation tax fund from the City of Charleston since 2017 is on pause after the festival moved its flagship event, Culinary Village, to Riverfront Park in North Charleston.
RiverDogs to allow youth teams of Pepperhill shooting to finish game. The Charleston RiverDogs announced that the youth baseball teams that were interrupted by a shooting on April 25 will complete their game at The Joe Riley Park ahead of Tuesday’s game.
S.C. Senate passes bill to break up DHEC. The South Carolina Senate passed with unanimous support in March a bill that would dissolve DHEC and create two new cabinet-level agencies: the Department of Behavioral and Public Health and the Department of Environmental Services. The bill has been passed to the House, but is meeting opposition among mental health advocates.
