 The S.C. Senate on Tuesday agreed to return for a special session later this year to take up bills in response to the possibility of the U.S. Supreme Court allowing states to ban abortion. Death at Charleston County jail under investigation by SLED. A man died at the Al Cannon Detention Center after suffering a “medical episode in his cell,” according to a spokesman. Now, the State Law Enforcement Division is taking up the investigation. More: The Post and Courier, WCBD TV, WCSC TV

Charleston City Council gives first approval to tourism funding for Ashley River pedestrian bridge. Charleston City Council on Tuesday approved the first reading of a measure to use just over $1 million from the city’s Hospitality Fee to support the Ashley River Crossing Project, a plan years in the making to build a bike-pedestrian bridge across the lower Ashley River.
