To save you the head ache of sifting through the countless live music events happening throughout Charleston and the surrounding areas, here’s a quick rundown of shows May 19-21.
Elliotborough Block Party & Music Festival
A stacked lineup of local music, pizza and beer — what more could you want for a Saturday? Oh yeah, free admission.
D’Allessandro’s Pizza will present the Elliotborough Block Party & Music Festival 3-9 p.m. May 21 to celebrate the neighborhood.
The event at the corner of St. Phillip and Bogard streets downtown will be free to attend and feature performances from local acts Crab Claw, Psycodelics, Babe Club and Whitehall, with the Denimufay Dance Co.
Summerville Orchestra’s ‘America the Beautiful’
The Summerville Orchestra will perform “American the Beautiful” 7:30 p.m. May 20 and 21 at Summers Corner Performing Arts Center in Summerville.
The performances will feature pieces from American composers: Peter Boyer’s “Symphony No. 1” and William Henry Fry’s “Overture to Macbeth.”

Two Colour of Music concerts
Colour of Music, Charleston’s Black Classical Musicians Festival, will offer two chances to experience live music May 19 and 21.
The first concert will be 7 p.m. May 19 at Charleston Library Society downtown, featuring compositions from Black female composer Florence B. Price and Russian composer Igor Frolov.
The second concert will be 7:30 p.m. May 21 at I’On Chapel in Mount Pleasant, featuring American composer Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson’s “String Quarter No. 1, Calvary.”

Rock ‘n’ roll at Tin Roof
Local rock bands Olive Dares the Darkness and Lost Cosmonauts return to Tin Roof May 21 with heavy metal group River of Deceit from upstate South Carolina.
Keyboardist Becca Darling and guitarist Mike Baum are joined by drummer Danielle Carlson and bassist Mr. Minister to form Olive Dares the Darkness, an electro punk outfit that melds indie synth with industrial rock.
Groovy rock quartet Lost Cosmonauts is composed of lead guitarist and vocalist Chris Patterson, bassist and vocalist Todd Few, drummer Rob Fabian and guitarist Dickie Brown.
Doors are 8 p.m. $10 cash over 21, $13 cash under 21.
