Johns Island studio “The Lab” is giving away studio time to three Charleston musicians.
The studio recently underwent a major recording equipment upgrade, and to celebrate and help spread the word, The Lab is giving away three studio sessions to three local musicians who submit through the website.
“Putting this space, this gear and this team together feels like achieving the dream I’ve had since college: a studio where music can be captured with a magical mastery that sets your songs among the greats you heard growing up,” Edwards told City Paper.
“You never know how it’s going to come together — the visions are all fuzzy and oversaturated,” he said. “At The Lab, we officially have all the right tools to bring any musical vision, no matter how fuzzy, to vibrant life.”
Each of The Lab’s three engineers will be offering a free session. David Edwards is offering a full band recording and mix. Daniel Hershenson is offering a vocal recording and mix session. Matt Tuton is offering a full session mix and master.
The submission deadline is July 31. The Lab will announce the winners August 5. To hear some of the sounds that have come out of The Lab, check out Charleston alt-rock outfit Baby Yaga’s “Going To Hell” and hip-hop artist Walter Brown’s “Big Watts.”
