The Cooper River Bridge Run will host its annual family festival this Sunday at Stoney Field.

“The event is a great opportunity for families to come out and celebrate exercise and good health in a festive atmosphere,” said Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg.  “We are looking forward to the return of the Cooper River Bridge Kids Run and are excited to be hosting it this year at the newly renovated Stoney Field.”

The all-ages event will run from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The day’s race events kick off at 4:30 p.m. with the mascot race. The “Toddler Waddler” and the 400-meter kids race will follow.

“We are excited to invite everyone to take this opportunity to participate as a family and to bring the spirit of this event to our community,” said race director Irv Batten.

The event is free for all. However, participants 12 and younger are asked to pre-register. For more information, visit bridgerun.com

Attendees can also take part in a family yoga session. There will be giveaways including free hot dogs and T-shirts for those who pre-register. All race participants will also receive a medal as they cross the finish line.

“Parking will be easier and we have the support of so many incredible local businesses and companies to make the event extra special this year,” said Batten.

The annual Cooper River Bridge Run, a 10K race that’s one of the largest in the country, will take place on April 1. Interested participants must register here. The Cooper River Bridge Run began in 1978. In recent years, the race has drawn approximately 40,000 participants.
