Dr. Annie Andrews, the 2022 Democratic nominee for Congress in South Carolina’s First Congressional District, has launched a new organization to push for policies that prioritize the interests and well-being of America’s children.

“Instead of playing politics with our kids, it’s time to get political for our kids,” said Andrews, founder of the new group, “Their Future. Our Vote.”

“America’s children deserve a better future,” she said. “There’s no one better to build that future, their future, than us.”

Andrews added the new group would draw attention to the most pressing problems that children are experiencing.

Among the issues the organization is looking to place a spotlight on include addressing climate change, ensuring access to high-quality healthcare, more appropriate gun laws, decreasing child hunger and poverty, and preserving voting rights to improve democracy.

To further its mission, the South Carolina-based organization will look to forge partnerships and coalitions throughout the country, according to a statement. It also will seek to engage  collaboratively in advocacy, education and community outreach efforts to raise awareness about the most pressing needs for children.

“I’m proud and honored to support Their Future. Our Vote. and the incredibly important work Dr. Andrews is doing to build a safer and brighter future for our children,” said Shannon Watts, founder of the national group Moms Demand Action

“As a mother, a pediatrician, a gun violence prevention advocate with Moms Demand Action, and a former candidate for Congress, she knows what’s broken in our politics, and more importantly, what it will take to finally create public policy that meets the moment. I trust Dr. Andrews implicitly to hold our elected officials’ feet to the fire to protect kids in America.”

Andrews’ journey to start an organization like “Their Future. Our Vote is right up her alley.

The Charleston resident has an extensive history of caring for the well-being of children, working as a pediatrician, along with being a loving mother of three kids.

Following the tragic Parkland school shooting in 2018, Andrews joined the national effort to reduce gun violence in America. This led to running for Congress and becoming the Democratic nominee in 2022. She described her bid as an effort to instill data-driven decision-making into Congress and working to create a safer world for children.

“Why isn’t it everyone’s priority to do what’s best for kids?” Andrews told the Charleston City Paper in a 2022 interview with the City Paper. “It seems to be obvious to me.”
