In perhaps the worst kept political secret of the year, President Joe Biden this morning officially announced in an online video that he was running for a second term. Exactly four years ago, he announced he was running to defeat GOP incumbent Donald Trump, who is now running to defeat Biden.

“When I ran for president four years ago, I said we are in a battle for the soul of America. And we still are,” Mr. Biden said in the 3-minute video, adding later: “That’s why I’m running for re-election.”

Just over 2.5 pounds of illegal fentanyl from a Folly Road apartment is the largest drug bust in the history of the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.  The amount of fentanyl could make enough doses to kill 570,000 people, authorities said.

Charleston County School Board Member Ed Kelley is threatening to file a lawsuit against fellow school board members after the Charleston County Board of Trustees voted April 4 to censure and remove him from leadership positions after a lengthy closed-door meeting.

Charleston airport sets new March passenger record. More travelers passed through Charleston International in three months, reaching more than 1.2 million ticket holders. In March alone, nearly half a million travelers flew through the airport.

S.C. gas prices fall nearly 8 cents. A GasBuddy survey shows gas prices are 7.7 cents lower over the past week, bringing the state’s average to $3.29 per gallon.

Gullah matriarch of Edisto Island and cookbook author dies at 90. Emily Meggett, known nationally as the Gullah matriarch of Edisto Island, died April 21 at age 90. She was the author of New York Times bestselling cookbook Gullah Geechee Home Cooking: Recipes from the Matriarch of Edisto Island, and lived on Edisto Island her entire life.
