The city of Charleston is set to host its next Operation Neighborhood cleanup event Saturday in downtown’s Gadsden Green neighborhood from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Local residents are invited to join Mayor John Tecklenburg, Charleston Housing Authority as well as city leaders and staff to assist with various cleaning and maintenance efforts throughout Gadsden Green.

Potential types of volunteer work to take place this Saturday include picking up litter, drain cleaning, graffiti removal, street sweeping and repair, tree planting, lamp post maintenance and more.

In addition to making improvements to the neighborhood, the city of Charleston says the event will give residents the opportunity to connect with neighbors while assisting the community.

Operation Neighborhood is a quarterly event set up by the city of Charleston and selects different local neighborhoods for cleanup, based on respective needs and requests.

Past cleanups have been coordinated with Charleston organizations such as Sherwood Forest-Ardmore Neighborhood Association, the Eastside Community Development Corporation, the Forest Neighborhood Coalition and Palmilla Apartments and the Ferguson Village Neighborhood Association.

The initial meeting area for the coming cleanup is at Harmon Field on the corner of President and Line streets. Street parking will be available to all participants, and refreshments will be served throughout the day.

To register for the cleanup event, visit the Operation Neighborhood Eventbrite page.
