Park Circle Pride Festival hosts more than 40 events over six days to kick off June’s Pride Month. More than 20 businesses in North Charleston’s Park Circle neighborhood will participate in the festivities from June 6 through June 11. The festival describes itself as “an annual week of celebration, education, inclusiveness, and fun for all ages.”
Park Circle Pride begins with a raising of the Pride flag outside of Commonhouse Aleworks, followed by a welcome speech from the North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey.
“Park Circle Pride is more than an event, it is a vibrant symbol of our city’s commitment to inclusivity, acceptance and celebration of diversity,” Summey said. “Being a part of this extraordinary gathering means embracing the rich tapestry of our community and recognizing that every individual has a valued place in North Charleston’s story.”
The festival benefits LGBTQ+ organizations Alliance for Full Acceptance (AFFA) and We Are Family. “We love any opportunity we have to get out into the community and connect folks to the work that AFFA is doing,” Chase Glenn, executive director of AFFA, told the Charleston City Paper. “It’s been exciting to see this event grow over the past several years, and we’re grateful that the Park Circle businesses that organize the event want to use it as a fundraiser for AFFA and We Are Family.”
The event has a full itinerary of interactive events from trivia and live music to comedy shows and color runs. “We can’t wait to host everyone at our kick-off party on June 6 at DIG in the Park,” Glenn said. “DJ Trevor D will have the beats and Brooke Collins has lined up a stellar group of drag queens to entertain. It’s going to be an awesome start to the festivities!”
Holy City Brewing also hosts several events including a Boozy Book Fair and a Paint with Pride class. Comedy club The Sparrow hosts Laugh out Loud with Pride, and don’t miss the Finale Party at Tattooed Moose from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 11. Visit ParkCirclePride.com to view the full schedule. Charleston Pride, a separate organization, will also host a parade at 9 a.m. June 3 on King Street in honor of Pride Month. Charleston Pride’s official Pride Week, including its Pride Festival, will take place in the fall.
