The Hollywood Walk of Fame will soon display the names of two South Carolinians to the speckled West Coast sidewalk, adding Charleston’s Darius Rucker and the late Chadwick Boseman to its 2024 class of entertainment professionals honored at the iconic landmark. They were among 31 other celebrities in movies, television, theater, radio records and sport entertainment selected.
Charleston native Rucker, a country singer and former frontman of 1990s band Hootie & the Blowfish, is being recognized in the recording category. Hootie & the Blowfish’s debut album is among the Top 10 best-selling studio albums of all time, while Rucker has had four No. 1 albums on the Billboard country chart during his solo career.
Anderson-born Boseman is best known as the lead in Black Panther. He will receive a posthumous star in the motion picture category. He passed away in August 2021 from colon cancer.
Boseman and Rucker join a handful of other South Carolina-born artists engraved on the boulevard, including actress Viola Davis, talk show host Leeza Gibbons, jazz trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, singer Eartha Kitt, playwright Barton MacLane, comedian Chris Rock and game show hostess Vanna White.
