U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, the South Carolina Republican who is a stalwart ally of 2024 candidate Donald Trump, faced relentless booing during a Pickens Saturday rally for the former president that attracted an estimated 50,000 people.

The rally, purported to celebrate America before the Independence Day holiday, was a platform for Trump to skewer American institutions and opponents. He dwelled on a dark vision of America, observers said. The indicted former president characterized political opponents as “degenerates” and “sick people” in a rambling speech as temperatures soared in Pickens.

But the crowd’s treatment of Graham caught the attention of CNN’s columnist and former comedian Dean Obeldallah: “But what GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham was subjected to at former President Donald Trump’s rally Saturday in Graham’s home state of South Carolina was far worse than I ever personally witnessed. In a word, it was a bloodbath.”

Highway Patrol won’t officially confirm that the state’s roads are filled with more tailgaters, but all you have to do — at any time of day and any day of the week — is drive a little and it’s as clear as the nose on your face….Tailgating is out of control. And there’s really not much you can do about it, as best as we can tell, because we have to rely on individual decisions of responsible driving to carry the day.”
