About two dozen Rosemont residents and friends of the neighborhood remembered the late Charleston police chief Luther Reynolds during the community’s recent 13th annual reunion.
Nancy Buttons, president of the Rosemont Neighborhood Association, held back tears as she said she and Reyonlds were “good friends,” and he supported the community.
“I had to go and tell my friend goodbye,” Buttons said, sobbing. “I miss you Luther, but I will see you [again] one day.”

The annual gathering at the Freddie Whaley Community Center also served to remind residents of the lingering environmental and health threat posed by the Lanxess chemical plant just north of Rosemont in the Charleston’s Neck area.
Recent leaks of toxic chemicals at the plant have residents frustrated and fearful.
Before the event, Buttons said she will ask community leaders if they want to seek a collaboration with neighborhoods in North Charleston and Charleston to call for closing the plant.
