A tropical wave has formed in the southwestern Atlantic Monday afternoon, just a few hundred miles south of Bermuda and is making its way toward the southeastern United States. Some models track this disturbance toward the S.C. coast later this week.
Though the weak trough of low pressure has a small chance of development, S.C. residents are still cautioned to take preventive measures in the event of a major storm.
Meanwhile, a second area that was a few hundred miles east of the Windward Islands Monday afternoon is also being monitored. The activity is moving toward the tropical Atlantic and Caribbean Islands with a low chance for strong storm development.
If either storm were to develop past a tropical depression into a tropical storm, it would take the name Emily and become the fifth-named storm of the season.
