Reports taken from July 23 to July 26

We’re gonna need a bigger basket
A North Charleston man on July 26 is accused of stealing $50 worth of “assorted household goods” from a Rivers Avenue dollar store before fleeing the scene on a bike. Prices in mind, that must have been a hefty load, and an even heftier bicycle basket. Police were unable to locate the suspect.
No better thief than the owner
A Mount Pleasant man on July 25 reported his rental vehicle had been stolen from a Magrath Darby Boulevard hotel. An investigation left police baffled, but it was later determined that the car had been repossessed by the rental company after the man had missed several payments. Whoops.
Call the fashion police instead
Mount Pleasant police on July 23 responded to a South Morgans Point Road restaurant after a man reportedly dressed in a bright purple shirt and bright pink shorts tried to leave without paying a tab worth nearly $200. Restaurant employees said he had a history of not paying, but we’re more curious about whether he has a history of dressing like that.
Hiding in plain sight
Mount Pleasant police on July 25 noticed a silver Dodge Charger parked in a handicapped space in a Houston Northcutt Boulevard parking lot. Upon closer inspection, the vehicle was determined to belong to a man whose license had been suspended, which led to an arrest.
Regular customer
A downtown George Street restaurant manager reported to Charleston police on July 23 that several bicycles had been stolen from the property since July 18. Security footage captured the thief taking one bike at a time a day or two apart. You’d think after the first bike was stolen that the bike owners would have invested in some bike locks.
Time for our regular reminder
North Charleston police on July 26 stopped a car on Dorchester Road after noticing its tag was out of date. After contacting the driver, police discovered all four occupants of the car had been smoking marijuana. They were let off with a warning, but officers confiscated the rest of their stash. Refresher: if you’re going to hotbox the car, make sure the plates are good.
