10/26 NEWSBREAK: Maine manhunt underway after at least 16 killed in two shootings

Authorities in Maine are searching this morning for a 40-year-old  “person of interest” after grisly shootings Wednesday in which multiple people — as many as 16 according to news reports — died at a bowling alley and a bar in the city of Lewiston. Dozens were hurt.

According to CNN, a law enforcement official said the suspect is a “certified firearms instructor and a member of the U.S. Army Reserve [who had] had recently made threats to carry out a shooting at a National Guard facility in Saco, Maine, and also reported mental health issues, including hearing voices.”

According to the Associated Press, the Wednesday mass shooting was the nation’s 36th this year. “At least 188 people have died in those killings, which are defined as incidents in which four or more people have died within a 24-hour period, not including the killer — the same definition used by the FBI.”
