While more than 9,000 people in Charleston County voted early in municipal and special elections over the last two weeks, most voters go on the actual election day, today.
Across South Carolina, there are dozens of municipal races on the ballot, including mayoral, town and city councils, and a handful of referendum questions, such as whether to spend $70 million on parks in Charleston.
State Senate District 42′s special election is one of the races being watched statewide, as Democratic S.C. Rep. Deon Tedder faces Republican newcomerRosa Kay for the seat formerly held by Democratic Sen. Marlon Kimpson.
For the Charleston area, two of the races also being closely watched are the mayoral races for Charleston and North Charleston. In Charleston, incumbent Mayor John Tecklenburg is seeking his third term while in North Charleston, a total of 10 candidates are fighting for the seat of outgoing Mayor Keith Summey.
