Reports taken from Dec. 5 to Dec. 18

True crime podcasts

An excerpt from a Dec. 9 Charleston police report: “For the last three years, the streets and parking lots of the Upper King Street area have been routinely plagued with many documented and repeated criminal offenses including but not limited to alcohol infractions, illicit substance possession, and weapons law violations.” It’s worth noting the report was for an open-container violation.

Witness protection

Mount Pleasant police on Dec. 6 investigated a stopped car off of the side of Interstate 526. The car was still running, the radio was on and a phone was docked in the phone mount inside. Police later found the driver who was reportedly hiding in the bushes “fearing for his life” after being “run off the road.” Police noted that he was likely never in any danger.

Yes takesies backsies

A North Charleston woman called North Charleston police on Dec. 18 to tell them that she was able to recover (read: steal back) her previously stolen vehicle using the spare key. She noted, however, that the primary key was still missing. So, how long do we think before the alleged thief steals back the car again?

Dubious at best

A Mount Pleasant man on Dec. 8 was pulled over for a faulty tail light, but he told Mount Pleasant police he was out looking for a place to buy cigarettes (he had two full packs in the car), and all of the gas stations were closed (there were several open, police noted). So he said he was heading to Walmart (which was closed). Police noted the several inconsistencies in the man’s story, but found nothing illegal and let him off with a warning for the tail light.
