The Charleston County School District Board of Trustees voted Monday on what the superintendent is authorized to do, including hiring, firing or otherwise changing any positions in its administrative department without needing board approval.
Traditionally, the superintendent had the sole authority to manage employees, but the board passed a motion last year that restricted a superintendent’s action. That ultimately resulted in the departure of previous superintendent, Dr. Eric Gallien.
The board on Monday voted to remove the rule and gave the authority back to the superintendent during a discussion of educator Anita Huggins’ contract as the district’s new superintendent.
