The Holy City will get a little spicy this weekend as the tastes and sounds of Louisiana visit James Island County Park on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m., courtesy of the Lowcountry Cajun Festival.

Described by organizers as a full afternoon of “ragin’ Cajun fun,” the festival, which drew about 8,000 guests last year, will feature Cajun and Creole foods, Zydeco music, a crafts area, kids activities and a crawfish-eating contest.

“We love being able to bring a little taste of Louisiana to James Island County Park each year,” Charleston County Parks spokesperson Sarah Reynolds said. “From the food to the music to the souvenirs for sale on site, it is a full celebration of all things Cajun and Creole, and there is truly something for all ages and interests.”

Attendees can expect to savor authentic Louisiana fare such as jambalaya, alligator, etouffee and andouille sausage, along with local favorites like seafood, Southern barbecue and traditional festival foods.

Scheduled musical acts include Shrimp City Slim’s Swamp All-Stars, Randy McAllister, and Gerard Delafose & the Zydeco Gators.

“When we started this festival 25 years ago, little did we know it would become as popular and celebrated as it has,” festival music director (and Shrimp City Slim keyboardist) Gary Erwin told City Paper. “With dynamite bands, truckloads of great Cajun food and fabulous weather expected on Saturday, we’re expecting a record turnout.”

Tickets are $35 per car in advance and $40 at the gate. Gold Passes are valid for admission. Cars can include up to 15 people. Pets, coolers,  outside food and alcohol are prohibited.
