MORNING HEADLINES  |  People all over the Lowcountry (excluding the folks at the Charleston City Paper, of course) are kicking off summer today with Memorial Day celebrations. If you’re still looking for a few items to add to your to-do list for the holiday, we have you covered with a short list of events happening today. 

Memorial Day at the Children’s Museum
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry. 25 Ann St. Downtown. 
Drop by the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry in downtown Charleston for a family fun-filled Memorial Day. Guests can create hand-made cards to send to veterans overseas (while supplies last). Special events are free with normal admission. Visit explorecml.org for more information.

Charleston Men’s Chorus concert
Noon. St. Philips Church. 142 Church St. Downtown. 
Join the Charleston Men’s Chorus for a Memorial Day concert honoring and celebrating U.S. veterans in song. This event is part of the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, celebrating 45 years in the Lowcountry. Visit charlestonmenschorus.org for more information.

OtherBrother Fest
Noon to 6 p.m. Holy City Brewing. 1021 Aragon Ave. North Charleston.

Joint community band concert
3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Hampton Park. 55 Cleveland St. Downtown. 
The combined talent of the Charleston Concert Band and the Columbia Community Band will soon fill Hampton Park with music ranging from rousing marchers to Broadway show tunes. Bring a chair or blanket to relax as you join this annual patriotic tradition and give tribute to U.S. veterans. Visit charlestonconcertband.org for more information.

New, state-of-the-art soccer facility coming to Charleston. A new, three-field, state-of-the-art soccer facility is making its way to an area off of North US-17 in Awendaw thanks to a partnership between a local family and the South Carolina Surf Soccer Club. 

Summerville native, General Hospital actor shot, killed by thieves. Summerville native and former “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor was shot and killed when he interrupted thieves stealing the catalytic converter from his car in Los Angeles, his family said Sunday.
