UPDATED: 11 a.m. June 20 | Police charged a 33-year-old Summerville man with murder after he allegedly hacked a co-worker to death Wednesday at a North Charleston construction site near Palmetto Commerce Parkway.
According to police, Tyrone Clayton Campbell is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He is currently being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center. David Carter, 57, of Charleston, died on the scene from sharp force injuries, according to a coroner’s report.
Campbell and Carter were allegedly temporary employees at the site, where they got into an argument, according to reports.
“According to witnesses, the suspect shoved the victim to the ground and started hacking him with the machete,” according to North Charleston police. “Afterwards he allegedly stood over the victim, swinging the machete around. He then walked out and encountered our officers on the sidewalk. He pulled the machete out of his bag when confronted.” After police arrived, he then was arrested.
