MORNING NEWSBREAK | Two Republican candidates for sheriff meet Tuesday at the polls in Charleston County’s only primary runoff race. The winner will face Democratic Sheriff Kristin Graziano in November.
Retired Marine Reserve Col. Greg Kitchens, a former county deputy, earned 45% of votes in the June 11 primary as former Mount Pleasant Police Chief Carl Ritchie closely trailed with 42% of votes. They met Sunday night in a televised forum and made final pitches for Tuesday’s runoff. In recent days, the race has become more highly charged with various political allegations over leadership and experience.
Polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday and close 12 hours later. Across the state, politicos will be looking at a big Upstate runoff that pits two GOP candidates vying to be the next congressman in the Third Congressional District.
Meanwhile across South Carolina as political temperatures warm, so do real temperatures. Heat indices are expected in the triple digits in Charleston, Columbia and the Pee Dee.
