Rutledge Cab Co., known for years for its juicy burgers and tasty sandwiches, today announced its immediate closure. Its last day of service is Oct. 28.
“It’s been our honor and privilege to serve our loyal customers,” partner Brad Creger said in an Instagram post. “We are grateful for their friendship and patronage. … We’d also like to thank our wonderful staff, past and present.”
The post also stated that the restaurant’s owners, which include Creger, baseball executive Mike Veeck and actor Bill Murray, will be “tossing the keys to a new tenant and watching from the sidelines as the property’s landlord.”
The owners said closing Rutledge, which opened in 2012 on Rutledge Avenue just north of Wagener Terrace, will expedite the process of opening a new restaurant in the space.
The closure comes as a surprise to many guests with some commenting on Facebook, “I have a party of 30 supposed to be here Nov 15… what?” and on Instagram, “Why would y’all post it the same day y’all [are] closing?”
