MORNING HEADLINES |  The University of Connecticut Huskies won a 12th national women’s title by overwhelming South Carolina 82-59 in the Sunday final of the NCAA tournament.

The South Carolina team, which failed to win a repeat championship, is poised, however, for another run at the championship next year, experts say.

Gamecocks’ coach Dawn Staley made no apologies, but was terse in her assessment:

“We lost to a very, very good basketball team,” she said in the postgame news conference. “They beat our ass but they didn’t make us like it. There’s a difference.”

The men’s championship game is tonight with the University of Houston taking on the University of Florida.
