MORNING HEADLINES  | Volvo Cars has confirmed it is laying off about 5% of its employees at its plant in Ridgeville. About 125 employees will be affected, according to published reports.

“Volvo Cars is making a small reduction to our workforce and making some production changes at our Charleston plant,” the company said in a statement.

The layoffs come less than a month after Volvo Cars announced a cut of up to 800 U.S. jobs at three other U.S. facilities. The company cited President Donald Trump’s tariffs on certain parts, which is expected to increase the cost of manufacturing vehicles.

“Heavy-duty truck orders continue to be negatively affected by market uncertainty about freight rates and demand, possible regulatory changes, and the impact of tariffs,” a spokesperson for Volvo Group North America said in a statement.
