CALL TO ARTISTS

The Gibbes Museum of Art has announced a deadline extension for artists to submit for the 1858 Prize for Contemporary Southern Art through Sept. 7. The annual program awards $10,000 to the winning artist, and exhibits the work of that artist exhibited at the Gibbes for a full year.

FortyEight, a wine bar and kitchen located in Freshfields Village on Kiawah Island, is hosting a four-course wine pairing dinner with Banfi Wines at 6 p.m. Aug. 7. The evening begins with passed hors d’oeuvres before Banfi’s McKenzie Schmitt will walk guests through the background and history of Banfi as well as the featured wines.

Barbecue: Life of Fire, hosted by legendary pitmaster Pat Martin, is debuting episodes weekly for its sophomore season via national streaming service, Tastemade. At 6 p.m. Aug. 12, Pat fishes the coastal inlets of Charleston in search of a sheepshead, which he then grills with his friend and chef James London of Chubby Fish.

The 23rd season of Bravo’s Top Chef cooking competition will film primarily in Greenville with several episodes set in Charlotte. The season will focus on the evolving food landscapes in both cities and will highlight Southern food traditions and global influences. Episodes will air in 2026. Charleston has a strong history with Top Chef. Season 14 was filmed in the Holy City in 2016. More recently, chef Shuai Wang of Jackrabbit Filly and King BBQ was a finalist on season 22.

Looking to find new beers? Wild Dunes Resort is hosting a Beers of the World celebration on Aug. 2 with a curated selection of craft brews including local favorites and rare international finds. Food will be available to buy. Guests must be 21+ with a valid ID.
