Indigo dyeing workshop
Join local artist Kristy Bishop as she leads an introductory workshop on dyeing with indigo at the Dill Sanctuary. Participants will learn about the history of this dye plant as it pertains to South Carolina, as well as the chemistry of a vat and the fabric used in shibori tie-dye methods. Participants are encouraged to bring personal items to dye such as a garment, yarn or even colored fabric to over-dye.

Concurrent solo exhibits: Elsewhere and Something Understood
Artists Mason Engler and Jim Malecky bring observation and imagination to life in two exhibits at the Park Circle Community Building. Engler’s paintings are drawn from quick observations, while Malecky’s collection of sculptures and prints invite deep introspection. The artists will host a free public reception at the gallery from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 7.

Dancing with Strange Partners lecture
As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes more sophisticated, the ethics of the technology become increasingly pressing. Join College of Charleston professor Andrew Garnar for a lecture that explores humanity’s relationship with AI and how to best incorporate AI into moral communities. With this framework, Garnar argues that AI should be engaged with in ways that go beyond it being a mere “thing.”

WHAT’S NEW
Michelin stars: Charleston restaurants Malagón, Vern’s and Wild Common received one Michelin star at a Nov. 3 ceremony in Greenville unveiling the 2025 Michelin Guide American South selections. The organization’s first-ever Southern guide recognizes excellence and quality in restaurants. Selections are made by anonymous inspectors. Restaurants from Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee are eligible for the first time this year and join an existing Atlanta guide.
Market expansion: Park Circle’s Odd Duck Market is opening a Summerville location next year. To be located at 117 S. Cedar St. in a Victorian home, it is slated to open January 2026. Expect to find a community gathering spot serving coffee, sandwiches, wine and curious little finds. Later in 2026, a third market on Rutledge Ave. — just south of Hampton Park — will open.

Tastes of autumn harvest: The Chef Aquatic presents Seasons of the Soul, a special four-course wine at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 dinner that celebrates Charleston’s fall bounty through local ingredients and French wines. Hosted at Frederic Payet Gallery at 13 Broad St., the dinner is a collaboration between Chef Madi Wist of Salt + Savor, Sommelier Latasha Williams of Fermented Vines and Chef Nour Brizri of Bright Light Bakery. Cost: $210 per person.

Oxtail exploration: At 6 p.m. on Nov. 14 at Gabrielle in the Hotel Bennett, join Osei “Chef Picky” Blackett in collaboration with Chef Isaac Werre for a five-course tasting menu that explores oxtail and Lowcountry favorites. Each course is paired with cocktails curated by Mixologist Maritza “Ritzy” Rodriguez, drawing on her Haitian roots and global technique to create a layered sensory journey. Cost: $210 per person.
