MORNING HEADLINES | Whet your taste buds: January means Restaurant Week is back across South Carolina.
Starting today, more than five dozen of Charleston restaurants are offering special menus at special prices. From downtown to Kiawah Island and from Nexton to Daniel Island, Restaurant Week is a great way to try a new spot or visit an old favorite.
If you’re craving sushi, 167 Sushi Bar is offering three courses at dinner for $45, and O-Ku has a four-course dinner for $55. Looking to indulge in a steak? Oak Steakhouse is offering three courses for $60, and the downtown and Nexton locations Hall’s Chophouse have a $70 dinner menu. If you want some noodles and spice, Basil Thai Restaurant in Park Circle has three courses at dinner for $30 and Two Bit Club downtown has a family-style meal for $45. And there’s much, much more!
Restaurant Week is put on annually by the South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association (SCRLA), a nonprofit with the mission to “promote, protect, and educate the hospitality industry in South Carolina for the good of all.” In addition to SCRLA, Explore Charleston and the Lowcountry Hospitality Association sponsor Charleston’s Restaurant Week.

Video of an ICE agent shooting and killing a woman driving a vehicle on icy streets has gone viral, igniting national reaction to turmoil caused by the federal agency. Witnesses said the woman posed no threat, according to NPR. Another report highlighted how officials are disputing claims by the U.S. Homeland Security secretary about the shooting.
