MORNING HEADLINES | GOP U.S. Sen. Tim Scott on Wednesday said he would seek a third full term to the U.S. Senate — despite pledging earlier that he wouldn’t because he believed in term limits.
Scott, a 60-year-old former chairman of Charleston County Council, was appointed in 2012 by then-Gov. Nikki Haley to fill a seat vacated by U.S. Sen. Jim Demint. In 2019, Scott pledged that his 2022 Senate reelection campaign would be his last.
But in a story first reported by The Post and Courier, Scott said Wednesday, “I’ll say without any question that as I think about my own reelection in 2028, I think about all the lessons I’ve learned on the campaign trail for all these other candidates, and frankly, even in South Carolina.
“The more I travel the state, the more I travel the country, the more I realize the important role that we play in the majority.”
