MORNING HEADLINES  |  Voters head back to polls across the state Tuesday with two runoffs impacting the Lowcountry in a big way.

In the 1st Congressional District race for November candidates for the general election, two Democrats – retired Admiral Nancy Lacore of Mount Pleasant and lawyer Mac Deford – will meet at the polls Tuesday.  Republicans can pick in a separate runoff between Charleston County Council member Jenny Honeycutt of James Island and S.C. Rep. Mark Smith of Daniel Island.

Across the state, voters in the Republican runoff will choose between Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette and state Attorney General Alan Wilson, who got an important and rare co-endorsement Friday from President Donald Trump.

That news was a big blow to Evette’s campaign.  But Friday’s news scrambled the campaign as the president essentially hedged his once-exclusive support for Evette, giving Wilson a major boost heading into Tuesday’s runoff. Over the weekend, the GOP opponents campaigned hard in personal appearances across the state.

If you voted in the Republican or Democratic primary on June 9, that’s the runoff you have to vote in on Tuesday.  Other valid S.C. voters who did not participate in the June 9 primary can vote in one of the two runoffs.
