Reports taken from July 26 to Aug. 8

What’cha making there?

A Johns Island man on July 26 allegedly stole more than $100 in groceries from a Maybank Highway store. Ingredients included smoked neck bones, lean beef, lobster tails, a jar of Ragu sauce and a container of garlic powder. The man apparently hid the items in a reusable grocery bag, snuck out through the front door and left in a “distinctly damaged.” We’re still scratching our heads trying to figure out why anyone might combine beef with lobster.

More e-bike tykes

Mount Pleasant police on Aug. 8 discovered that they may soon be outnumbered by the town juveniles’ e-bike gang.  That day, “about 20-30” kids rode past a parked patrol car on “dirt bike-style illegal e-bikes” doing wheelies and other tricks. Police attempted to stop them, but the riders scattered and fled down Rifle Range and Hamlin roads. Police didn’t catch a single kid. We’re not sure who we’re rooting for, but we’re loving the entertainment.

Parking spot spat

Two North Charleston women on Aug. 8 reportedly fought over a parking spot outside of a Rivers Avenue business. When the woman who eventually won the intergalactic space battle returned to her vehicle, she told police she found that someone keyed all four doors. (Wonder who?) Listen, we’re not going to blame the victim here, but we are going to question how you could be surprised at this point. The investigation is ongoing.

Oops

Charleston police on July 30 found a missing but emancipated North Charleston teen casually hanging out at Hampton Park. After a confusing phone call, police determined the teen’s mother reported her missing last year when she went to a concert in Atlanta and failed to update the entry even after her daughter returned. Well, we hope the concert was fun, at least.

Spat scratch fever

North Charleston police on Aug. 8 separated a couple arguing on a sidewalk along Meeting Street Road and attempted to talk to each individually to get the story. The woman told officers that the man “scratched her neck,” but the man said that she scratched him instead. Neither had any visible marks, and both ultimately walked away from officers. Good talk?
