Paper or plastic? Tired of choosing the lesser of two evils? Thanks to local greenie Jennifer Mathis and some visionary local businesses (like City Paper and Coastal Expeditions), you can get a free reusable grocery bag and stop wasting energy and resources on disposable bags. Jennifer hit on this idea last year, signed up as many businesses as she could, printed up a bunch of the bags, and handed them out at Whole Foods for free. Her goal? Making change happen, one bag at a time. It’s a good illustration of how one person can make a difference and raise awareness about our disposable society. Even if you didn’t grab a bag, at least you felt a little bit guilty the next time you answered that annoying question.
