What is it? An exhibition of paintings by the official poster artist of Piccolo Spoleto 2008.
Why see it? When Hagerty’s not at his easel, he’s got a scalpel in hand as a surgeon at Duke University. That hand-eye coordination comes in handy โ his flowing, whimsical piece Celebration is a perfect fit for Piccolo. Featuring a host of colorful circus and artisan-type characters in front of a backdrop of St. Michael’s, St. Philip’s, and the Ravenel Bridge, the piece is both fanciful and distinct. Hagerty compares his paintings to dreams, and each one is a journey into a fantastic otherworld.
Who should go? Art snobs and children alike will enjoy the intricate, mystical worlds of Hagerty’s paintings.
