Charleston gained a new member of city council Tuesday night as Boyd Gregg defeated Shawn Pinkston in the runoff election for the Charleston City Council District 1 race. Gregg, who will represent a district stretching from Daniel Island to parts of downtown, earned 69% of the total vote with 1,182 votes against Pinkston’s 533.  In other Charleston election news: On Monday, Mayor John Tecklenburg told WCBD that he would seek a third term.

Meanwhile in the annual State of the City address Tuesday, Tecklenburg disparaged radical, political thinking and urged residents to celebrate “common-sense” thinking on four of the city’s biggest goals moving forward. More: The Post and Courier, Charleston City Paper, WCSC TV, The State, WCBD TV
