[UPDATED 7/26/22]: Comcast restored internet service to customers between 9-9:30 p.m. on Monday night, according to a Comcast representative.
A contractor excavating sewer lines inadvertently severed a large Comcast fiber network line this morning on the peninsula, said a representative of the telecommunications company.

Comcast estimates that service could be back up and running by 8 p.m., according to service messages to customers.
“We have crews on site and are working as quickly as possible to restore services to our residential and business customers later today,” said Alex Horwitz, vice president of Comcast Public Relations. “Those located in the peninsula portion of Charleston — namely the downtown area — are currently impacted.”
Customers in West Ashley, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, Kiawah Island, James Island and Johns Island are not impacted.
