As we mourn the closings of two local coffee shops, a new bakery is settling into its East Bay Street storefront. Baked is an NYC transplant and is famous for serving Oprah’s favorite brownie. She loves it so much, in fact, that there’s a six-page spread in O Magazine about the bakery. Saturday, after checking out the beautiful exhibit Memento Mori: Warnings from the American West and Antarctica at City Gallery at Waterfront Park, we walked over to Baked for me an afternoon snack. The space is bright, stylish, and welcoming, with comfortable booths, orange tiles, and a selection of brownies, cookies, cakes, and marshmallows that look almost too adorable to eat. They’ve also got a menu of sandwiches, quiches, etc. It’s officially our favorite new spot in town. Next time you’re craving an afternoon pick-me-up, forget Starbucks. Support local businesses. Get baked! (Photos from www.bakednyc.com)
