Much of U.S. Sen. Tim Scott’s spending in his presidential campaign is by two newly formed LLCs whose addresses are Staples stores in North Charleston, according to an in-depth report by The New York Times. The companies’ names: Meeting Street Services LLC and AMZ Holdings LLC, both of which have North Charleston addresses. According to the story:
“Mr. Scott entered the 2024 race with a war chest of $22 million, and his campaign raised $5.8 million from April through June. In that same time, he laid out about $6.6 million, a significant clip — but most of it cannot be traced to an actual vendor. Instead, roughly $5.3 million went to two shadowy entities: newly formed limited liability companies with no online presence and no record of other federal election work, whose addresses are Staples stores in suburban strip malls. Their minimal business records show they were set up by the same person in the months before Mr. Scott entered the race.”
In recent days, there has been a lot of news about the GOP race to be the 2024 presidential nominee:
Former President Donald Trump, who will speak Saturday at a Republican dinner in Columbia, is far out in front of rivals in a new national Siena Poll, garnering 54% of the preference of primary voters. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis fell to 17% to garner second place. S.C.’s Nikki Haley and Tim Scott – 3% each.
Meanwhile, Scott has criticized DeSantis over Florida’s recent change to its curriculum on slavery, saying there is no silver lining from slavery. Halely has warned GOP voters to move beyond Trump. And DeSantis will be the headliner at a major Aug. 28 GOP event in Anderson.
CP OPINION, Brack: S.C. GOP should serve as Trump’s 2024 roadblock
“South Carolina can do the nation a favor in its 2024 presidential primary by dumping former President Donald Trump as a candidate. Simply put, he’s a train wreck who is making America small. He doesn’t deserve to be president again.
“In the Palmetto State where conservative Christian voters heavily identify with and vote for Republicans, how can anyone who follows Jesus continue to support someone who has broken most of the Old Testament’s Ten Commandments?”
