Southern Charm’s Craig Conover and Austen Kroll are partnering with Uptown Hospitality Group (UHG) to open a new bar, By The Way, later this year, according to a Jan. 19 media report by Entertainment Tonight (ET).
The news comes on the heels of a Jan. 19 story in the Charleston City Paper about the UHG empire that included a discussion with senior partner Keith Benjamin about the organization’s six concepts, including By The Way.
By The Way, located in the Spring Street space formerly occupied by Warehouse, is slated to open this summer with “elevated tavern fare” and more of a “cool neighborhood vibe,” according to Benjamin, than UHG’s popular nightlife spots, Uptown Social and Share House.
“Charleston has grown so much in the last few years and brought in a lot of travelers, so we wanted to create a space where locals and travelers could hang out together and enjoy the neighborhood,” Conover said in the ET story.
Kroll added, “What I envision is a place where you come for a drink before dinner, let’s say, lose track of time and before you know it, hours have passed and all of a sudden, you’re surrounded by all your friends.”
Conover and Kroll aren’t the only Southern Charm cast members with their hands in downtown dining spots, Co-star Leva Bonaparte is the co-owner of Republic, Mesu, Bourbon ‘N Bubbles and Lamar’s Sporting Club.
Southern Charm’s ninth season wrapped up last week. All episodes are available for streaming on Peacock.
