James Island town market
The town of James Island is hosting the James Island Town Market every first Friday of the month starting in May and running through December. The market includes local craft vendors, food trucks, local produce, music, lawn games, kids’ activities and more. Bring a lawn chair and water — and your furry friends, too — and come support local small business owners and artists.

Cherokees in the Revolutionary Era discussion
Join in on a discussion exploring the worldview of the Cherokees which provides insights into the events that occured as colonists of South Carolina began to discuss grievances with the rule of Great Britain. Led by renowned history professor Alice Taylor-Colbert, this event is sponsored by nonprofit South Carolina Humanities. The discussion is free to attend, but requires registration in advance. Cafe Society open mic night
Join Cafe Society at the Gibbes Museum of Art for the group’s first open mic night. Inspired by the storytelling series The Moth, guests who have a three to five-minute story, poem, song or other performance that explores the topic of “passages” — a rite of passage, a physical migration or some other crossing — are encouraged to stand and deliver.

Kid Tours is a series designed to highlight artifacts from the museum’s collection that have fascinated children for years. Kid Tours meets every Wednesday in June and July.
